Holden, Massachusetts
Holden, Massachusetts covers 36 square miles north of Worcester. As of 2010, the population of Holden is 17, 346 with a density of 480 residents per square mile. The town was settled in 1723 and incorporated in 1741. Several villages in Holden sprouted up around mills in town, many of which were destroyed by fire or were flooded during the creation of the Quabbin and Wachusett Resevoirs leaving only the worker housing. One village still standing in particular, Jefferson, became a summer retreat for Bostonians as well as housing for workers at nearby mills.

Holden, MA is easily accessible to 190 which gives you access to all of the important highways (the Pike - straight to Boston, 190 North to Route 2 straight to Boston, 290 east to 495 - south to Cape Cod or north to ski country). Located North of Worcester you tend to avoid a majority of the morning commute traffic into Worcester coming from 290 East.
Hop on 290 East to get to the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough or 290 West to the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley in Millbury - both about 20 minutes away. Take the Pike East to the Natick Collection or continue on into Chestnut Hills (Shops at Chestnut Hills) or Boston (Prudential Center and Copley Place known as the Pru, Newbury Street, Fanueil Hall) for more upscale shopping experiences. Take 495 South for Wrentham Outlets for high end outlet stores, but be prepared for a frenzy especially around the holidays.
